The 'Hey, Joe' School of Learning
According to Ronald Gross, author of Peak Learning, 80 percent of all employee learning is done at the "Hey, Joe" school, where coworkers ask their peers for help. For example, "Hey, Joe, how do you do this?" It makes sense. You learn what you need when you need it, and it's free. What You Could Do Today Create a list of the faculty at your "Hey, Joe" school. These are people both within and outside your workplace who could be helpful to you when you're stuck. You also can create other opportunities for free, just-in-time learning. For example, set up an email list of experts in your field who could be helpful in a bind. Whenever one of you has a question, he or she emails the group. It's like having a team of free consultants at your beck and call. The purpose of this article is to both provide information and facilitate general dialogue about various employment-related topics.
